- @TheRealJGrant via Twitter The Mets’ problem is the same as that of every team with a vacancy behind the plate: It’s J.T. Realmuto, and then it’s an awfully big drop-off from there. Realmuto is a two-time All-Star who almost certainly would have made it three in a row had the Midsummer Classic been played in 2020.
- Another day, another Trevor Bauer Twitter spat with a could’ve-been Mets teammate. Bauer and pitcher Marcus Stroman traded jabs on Twitter Sunday, shortly after Bauer — who notably dissed the.

The New York Mets are doing everything imaginable to get Francisco Lindor to sign an extension, even if it means Steve Cohen campaigning on Twitter. That's a different way of doing things.
While some teams are giving lineups and even streaming games, the Mets have decided to leave fans in the dark when it comes to what’s going on at the teams Alternate Site in Brooklyn.
Luckily, they recently played against the Red Sox Alternate Site team and they streamed a couple of the games. They played three games with the Red Sox winning two of them at Polar Park in Worcester, Ma.
Game One
Red Sox 9, Mets 1
Not much to highlight here as the Mets struck out 10 times in four innings against lefty Kyle Hart. The lone offensive bright spot for the Mets was a solo homer off Hart by David Thompson.
Thompson, 27, was the Mets fourth round pick back in 2005. The corner infielder has struggled over the last couple of seasons in the Mets minor leagues with a .673 OPS in 2018 and a .638 OPS in 2019. He spent time in Triple-A in both of those seasons. World of goo crack.
The broadcasters made a note that Mets minor leaguer Mallex Smith made a great catch in right field. Smith was also on base twice with a single and a walk.
Red Sox prospect Jarren Duran went 2-for-5 with a triple in the game. Sid meiers civilization vi - new frontier pass crack.
Game Two
Mets 3, Red Sox 2 (10 innings)
Here’s the Mets lineup from the game so you can get an idea of who was playing where:
- DH Drew Jackson
- LF Drew Ferguson
- 2B Wilfredo Tovar
- SS Jake Hager
- 3B Brandon Drury
- RF Khalil Lee
- CF Johneshwy Fargas
- DH Mallex Smith
- 1B David Thompson
- C Dan Rizzie
Yes, they were allowed to use two designated hitters and Fargas actually led off the game because he was on deck when the first scrimmage ended. Hager knocked in the winning run in the 10th inning. Tovar was on base three times including two hits and a hit by pitch.
On the pitching side, Jerad Eickhoff got the start and he was terrific: 5 IP, ER, 6 K
The former Phillies starter allowed just one baserunner — a solo homer by Michael Chavis — in the start. Jerad allowed five runs in four innings this Spring with the Mets, he was signed to a minor league deal in the offseason.
Mets right-handed reliever Sam McWilliams tossed two scoreless innings. Fellow right-hander Arodys Vizcaino pitched a scoreless inning as well. Both guys had their fastball up to 96 mph.

Big story for the Mets was starting pitching again, this time it was Jordan Yamamoto: 4 IP, 3 H, ER, 0 BB, 6 K
Final line on Jordan Yamamoto for the #Mets Alternate Training Site squad this morning:
4 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 6 K, 0 BB, 1 HR
Yamamoto served up a home run to Jarren Duran but looked solid otherwise. pic.twitter.com/cs9KpXzQXz

The lone blemish for Yamamoto was a Duran solo home run –Duran had two home runs in the game. Mets pitchers Tom Windle and Jesus Reyes combined to give up nine runs. Jerry Blevins was one of the only pitchers that could get Duran out, he retired he impressive youngster on a comebacker with runners on.
Fargas knocked in two of the Mets four runs. Thompson doubled and also had a very long single off the wall. For the Red Sox, former Mets prospect Cesar Puello had three hits and a highlight catch in the outfield.
Thompson was the Mets best offensive player in the series, he went 4-for-10 with two extra base hits and a sac fly.
The Mets are scheduled to host the Red Sox in Brooklyn before the minor league season starts on May 4.
Minor League Camp Notes
Mets minor league camp kicked off recently with all four of the Mets full season teams scheduled to kick off their season on May 4. Sam Dykstra of MiLB.com had the chance to talk to Mets minor league farm director, Kevin Howard.
Howard said the Mets are not focused on keeping some of the top prospects at the same level. “As far as us keeping them together as a group so they can win, that’s not something that we’re really focused on,” Howard said. “We’re focused on having an individual plan for each guy and then designing a daily process where those guys can contribute to getting better. Then hopefully, that plan turns into success for that individual.”
Mets Twitter News
Dykstra notes that the Mets could be aggressive with prospect Ronny Mauricio by potentially placing him in Double-A Binghamton to start the season. Mauricio, Mets No. 2, gained about 45 pounds since last march. He also looks to be a couple of inches taller. The shortstop went 5-for-14 with three RBIs in big league camp for the Mets.
The Mets have had internal discussions about having Mauricio start getting playing time at third base and the outfield following the long-term extension given to shortstop Francisco Lindor.
Howard noted that right-hander Tylor Megill has been a standout in camp, “He can be a power pitcher, or he can pitch with finesse. I’ve been impressed with how well-rounded of a pitcher he is.”
Megill has been at 95-96 mph in April, he struck out one and retired two of the three batters he faced in major league camp. The 25-year-old was drafted in the eighth round of the 2018 by the Mets. He has split time between starting and relieving over his 32 minor league appearances. He has a 3.43 ERA and 122 strikeouts in 99 2/3 innings, with Double-A being the highest level he’s reached.
Outfield is a weak spot in the Mets system, but Howard is excited about Alexander Ramirez despite the fact he’s never played in a pro game. Ramirez, 18, was given a $2.05 million signing bonus by the Mets in 2019 as an international free agent.
Howard said, “Very natural and athletic in the outfield. Very explosive with his swing. He’s a natural center fielder. He doesn’t need much coaching out there offensively. There are going to be some things that he’s going to have to improve but, for now with a guy like him, you just let him be natural and explosive and let him figure things out on his own.”
Mets infield prospect Wilmer Reyes suffered a leg injury a couple of weeks ago, but avoided a severe injury and could be back in baseball activities in a couple of weeks.

NEW YORK (AP) — The owner of the New York Mets says he has dropped off Twitter because his family received threats that he attributed to “misinformation” that was not tied to the baseball team.
Steve Cohen’s hedge fund, Point72, has become entangled in market turmoil that has pitted a band of small investors against traders that made bets against — or “shorted” — stock of companies including GameStop.
Hedge funds that shorted GameStop have lost billions as small investors bid up the company’s shares. One of the short sellers, Melvin Capital, announced this week that it received a $750 million infusion from Point72.
“I’ve really enjoyed the back and forth with Mets fans on Twitter which was unfortunately overtaken this week by misinformation unrelated to the Mets that led to our family getting personal threats,” Cohen said Saturday in a statement issued by the Mets. “So I’m going to take a break for now.”
Twitter users looking for Cohen’s account Saturday got a message reading, “This account doesn’t exist Try searching for another.”
The hedge fund billionaire told Mets fans “We have other ways to listen to your suggestions and remain committed to doing that.” He added that this week’s events would not affect the team’s resources.
Cohen first took a stake in the Mets in 2012. Last year he gained 95% ownership in a deal that valued the club at $2.4 billion, a record sale price for a Major League Baseball team.
The Mets tied for last place in the National League East division last season. This month, the team fired its newly hired general manager after reports that he had sent explicit and unsolicited messages to a female reporter several years ago.
